A Catalan break

We’ve been over the border in Spanish Catalunya for the weekend and, as always, spent some of the time discovering new dishes and buying olives, olive oil and Cava wine.  More on these in another post, but for now I want to record my first taste of rossejat de fideos, similar to paella but made with vermicelli pasta and squid ink, for lunch in Sant Martí d’Empúries, although since I was taking the photos it is Lo Jardinier’s first taste that appears here.  It was wonderful – all the individual prawns, clams, langoustines and pieces of squid and red pepper and artichoke had their own flavours but combined into a delicious black dish.
